5 Best New Metal Albums Added May 16, 2024
Welcome to this week's update to the 2024 best metal albums chart from "Horns Or Thorns"! Metalcore bands have dominated this past week, securing the top two spots, and we also have some notable entries from two older albums released on April 26. So let's get things going!
New Entries
The first of the two metalcore albums, entering directly at number 4, is Knocked Loose's third album, "You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To." The Kentucky-based band, which leans heavily toward the hardcore side, gained even more popularity with their new release. Their collaboration with Poppy is a good indicator of this. Only time will tell what heights they can reach, but looking at what they have achieved so far, there are no limits.
At number 45, we find the second metalcore album on this list, "The Cycles of Trying to Cope." The sixth album in Like Moths to Flames' discography is closer to the core of metalcore sound, but it also explores multiple facets of the genre, from the more brutal aspects to the more melodic ones.
Unleash the Archers' latest album, 'Phantoma,' is sci-fi-themed, deviating from standard fantasy themes and embracing what has become a trend in power metal in recent years. Landing at the 87th spot with their sixth album, one of the most popular power metal bands of the last ten years has released a concept album that addresses the dilemma brought into our lives by AI advancements.
It's hard for metal bands to produce something original nowadays, but Morgul Blade creates a distinctive sound. The Philadelphia-based band's sophomore album, whose release debuted at number 88 on the chart, challenges the metal world with its blend of epic heavy metal and black metal elements.
Our last highlight on this list is from a genre that, although it has a devout following, is not one of the most popular: doom metal. Arð's second album, "Untouched By Fire," is rather melodic and melancholic for a metal album at times. Arð, a solo project of Mark Deeks (Winterfylleth), achieves what I often love about metal: it takes you on a journey, in this case, to medieval England.
